What else is the long weekend for? Writing submissions open during April 2023!

The Pig’s Back

Deadline: 15th April.

The Pig’s Back seeks submissions of previously unpublished fiction and non-fiction. They accept work from anywhere in the world but currently can only accept English language pieces. They do not accept poetry.

All contributors will receive a flat fee of ‎‎€300. They will also receive two copies of the issue in which their work features.

Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize 2023

Deadline: 16th April.

The Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize is awarded to an original work of fiction under 2000 words. Translations are accepted, but the prize is awarded to the original writer, not the translator. This years judges are, Otessa Moshfegh, Tiffany Tsao and Mariana Enríquez.

Bristol Short Story Prize

Deadline: 26th April.

20 stories will be shortlisted and published in Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology: Volume 16 by Tangent Books. The winner and 2 runners up will be selected from the shortlist and announced at an awards ceremony in October 2023.

The Four Faced Liar

Open for entries until 30th April.

Submissions for issue 2 (Autumn/Winter 2023) of The Four Faced Liar open from 15th – 30th April 2023. 

They are asking for submission in one of the following categories:

  • Short story up to 4000 words​;
  • Creative nonfiction up to 4000 words;
  • Flash fiction up to 1000 words;
  • Poetry up to 3 pages;
  • Work in translation up to the word/page limit of the relevant category;
  • Visual art/photography up to 2 pieces.

Mairtín Crawford Awards 2023

Deadline: 30th April.

For the Poetry Award 3-5 poems and for the Short Story Award a short story up to 2,500 words. All entries submitted can be on any subject, written in any style or form. Entries must be in English.
