The Rhizome Residency (Kilkenny County Council)
Deadline: 16th July
Kilkenny County Council Arts Office invites applications from artists across all art forms who have a clear passion for nature and the environment. Who are curious about how the impact of biodiversity loss and the climate crisis is likely to impact the arts and culture in Ireland. Receive a 10-day residency and an artist’s fee of €2,000. The residency will take place in September / October 2024.
Evolution Programme Irish Writers Centre
Deadline: 17th July
Evolution is a six-month programme that provides support for ten published (1 or 2 books) writers at a crucial point in their careers. The selected writers can pick from a suite of supports and collaborate with like-minded writers.
Chewin’ the Fat Volume Two

Following on from their first volume which featured incredible artists from all over the UK and beyond, Chewin’ the Fat Volume Two is open for submissions! They’re on the hunt for creative work which responds to DREAMS. They’re looking for Articles | Essays | Critical Writing | Art | Photography | Short Stories | Poems.
Seán Ó Faoláin International Short Story Competition 2024
Deadline: 31st July
The Seán Ó Faoláin Short Story Competition is an annual short story competition open to writers from around the world, submissions accepted from May 1st to July 31st annually. It is dedicated to one of Ireland’s most accomplished story writers and theorists and is sponsored by the Munster Literature Centre.
Due to the large volume of entries, the judge will not be able to notify the authors of non-winning entries or give individual feedback. A shortlist will be posted on our website homepage by late September / early October, with winners and runners-up contacted before the public announcement. If you need to withdraw an entry, please email info@munsterlit.ie. We recommend following us on social media or signing up for our newsletter to stay up to date with all competition developments directly.
Source Photography Writing Prize 2024
Deadline: 1st August
If you’ve not written for Source before we invite you to send us an article. The winning entry will receive £500 / 570 Euro and we will either publish it or commission you to write an article for us in the future. All short listed entries will also be considered for publication or for future commissions. (paid).
The Dublin Review
Deadline: Ongoing.
The Dublin Review welcomes submissions of fiction and non-fiction previously unpublished in the English language. We do not accept poetry submissions. We especially encourage submissions from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in literary magazines and other cultural forums.
