Mama may I, do we have news for you! The winners of the Morning Coffee Writing Competition have been chosen and we couldn’t be happier!
The support and generosity towards this contest has been overwhelming so we wanted to make a nice thing to give our thanks and celebrate the winning pieces. And so…
Join us this Wednesday at 7pm at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iizmatl_oE for a wee Virtual Announcement, where the fantastic guest judge Sarah Davis Goff will announce the winners, along with a quick Q&A with the three winners! There will be thanks, there will be joy. (We promise, there is no awkward dancing this time. Just pure, unadulterated gratitude.)
We are very excited to invite you to Sonder’s Magazine’s Issue III Launch Party! We have readings from our Issue III contributors and a bit of an awkward boogie. Come and celebrate with us 🎉
Copies of Issue III are available to buy online at sonderlit.com/shop/ and in certain independent bookstores. At the moment, our stockists are The Winding Stair, Marrowbone Books, Hampton Books and Alan Hannas.
We honestly can’t believe we are bringing ye a third issue, especially given the time that we are in. We are beyond grateful that, what started as a fun project for the editors has grown into something that they can continue, bringing you pieces that excel in originality, wit, and personality.
Hello all you wonderful beans! Why yes, it is time for another launch. We can’t quite believe it either!
We hope you can all join us for the launch of Issue III on the 24th of September. To keep things as safe as possible we have decided to make this a virtual one like the last issue.
We will be sharing the links on our social media sites, including our YouTube channel and website, so it’ll be hard to miss. We are so grateful and excited to be able to share the work of so many talented people in this issue. Hopefully we will soon be able to get to see you all in person to celebrate your works. However, for now, make sure to get your parties hats dusted and your devices charged for the 24th of this month. We can’t wait to see you all then
Announcing our Issue III contributors! We are so proud of the content of our third issue and we cannot wait to share so many new and emerging voices with ye ✨
This issue was particularly special as we noticed, despite their varying genres and voices, a unified tone of overcoming. Given the selected theme of Challenges, we couldn’t have hoped for more!
We will be partying like it’s 1999 (or any year, really, as long as it isn’t 2020) at our digital launch on the 24th September at 7pm, where we will share some readings from the new issue and some bangin’ choons. You’d want to be there. It’s kind of a big deal. Click attending at: https://www.facebook.com/events/313171513251438/ for all the updates!
More details to be announced soon! In the meantime, say hello to our SEXY contributors 💚
Introducing the Morning Coffee Writing Competition! We at Sonder Magazine are honoured to share a part in bringing this short story contest to you.
This has been a difficult year for pretty much everyone. On top of awful Covid stress, vital organisations like the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre have been obliged to cancel many of their fundraisers. For those who aren’t aware of their services, the DRCC offer a free, confidential listening and support service for women and men who have been sexually abused at any time in their lives. They also run prevention campaigns.
The Morning Coffee Writing Competition aims to raise funds for the RCC and also, maybe, to make your day a bit brighter by inspiring some creativity.
We need small pretty things in dark times, whether the darkness is caused by a dull 9am lecture, a personal trauma, or a global pandemic. Hopefully, we all have something positive (like a cup of coffee, perhaps) to get us up in the morning.
The entry fee is €6.50, although we encourage you to donate a little more if you can. All proceeds go directly towards the RCC. To submit, please see the Morning Coffee Competition tab, where you can find the submission guidelines and form.
The winning entry will be published in Issue IV of Sonder Magazine and will receive a book voucher to the value of €20. Those who place 2nd and 3rd will have their stories published on our website.
Morning Coffee was founded by Carol McGill. Carol lives in Dublin. Her short stories have been published in Sonder, Crannóg, Capsule Stories, Number Eleven Magazine, Silver Apples Magazine, and the anthology Words To Tie To Bricks. She has also had work appear in the online magazines Q/A Poetry, Brilliant Flash Fiction, Rookie and Germ. She was the 2019-2020 chairperson of Trinity Literary Society. She tweets at @WordsByCarolx.
Submissions for Sonder Issue III are now open! The theme of this issue is Challenges. In the current time of worldwide fear, we all have to work together by staying apart. It’s a challenge we are all facing. We hope that this time at home is giving you the time and space to get creative, and that you are all staying safe.
This magazine is all about bringing different perspectives together. Everyone is wildly and magically different. Sonder is about reflecting those differences and, ultimately, what brings us together.
We are accepting short stories, poetry, flash fiction and creative nonfiction.

We love you already for reading this. Thank you for welcoming us into your world, you good thing.
Badabing, badaboom, submissions are CLOSED! We thank everyone from the bottom of our full-sized aortic pumps.
We have a hefty month ahead of us what with the huge response we got but we are so excited to share this experience. Keep your eyes and ears peeled on our social media channels and our website for more information!
You are all beautiful for being a part of this and for inviting us into your worlds. Thank ye so much 💛
Hello there. Meet Orla and Sinéad, the co-editors of this new literary magazine. We decided to create something to reflect HUMANS.
If you’re thinking, “huh what’s sonder eh ye arseholes making up words,” it’s that existential feeling you get when you’re walking down the street or sitting in the pub and are overcome by the realization that everyone you pass is just out there doing their own thing, thinking their own thoughts and living their own lives. It’s kinda freaky.
We want this zine to reflect everyday people and how extraordinary each individual is. Sonder doesn’t have to be a solitary feeling, which is why we want to put it all together in this little haven for individuality. We want people to open up this publication and find themselves reflected in other people’s work.
So, if you like the sound of it, our first publication is going to be all about Sonder. What makes people different and, in that, what brings people together.
We want to publish fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry based around the individual and how we interact with each other. We want you, the writer, to get into the mind of someone sitting across from you on the Dart home, or the fella who just asked to bum a lighter outside the George, or even the Aisling wearing runners to work. Challenge yourself and become someone new through your own personal creativity.
Submission guidelines are in the Submissions tab. Have a gander. Slide into our DM’s. See you on the flipside xo S & O
